Fiji Man Charged in Scam: The Dark Side of Online Sales Revealed

The Fiji Police MPaisa Task Force has taken action against a 27-year-old man from Moto, Ba, charging him with obtaining financial advantage through deception and for allegedly possessing property believed to be proceeds of crime.

Investigations by the police showed that between July 2023 and September 2024, the man supposedly utilized several Facebook accounts to advertise items for sale. He received around $1,400 for these items, which were deposited into his bank account and transferred through various mobile money accounts registered in his name.

The accused faces six counts of Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception and one count of Possession of Property Suspected to be Proceeds of Crime. He is scheduled to appear in the Nadi Magistrates Court today.
