Fiji Man Charged in Mobile Money Scam: The Kava Con That Cost $250

The Fiji Police Mpaisa task force has filed charges against a 30-year-old man from Bulileka, Labasa, for allegedly obtaining financial gain through deception. The incident reportedly occurred on March 25, 2024, when the accused allegedly deceived a victim into sending $250 via a mobile money transfer app in exchange for kava. After receiving the payment, the accused failed to provide the kava as promised. He faces one count of obtaining financial advantage and is scheduled to appear in Labasa Magistrates Court today.
