Fiji Man Charged in Deceptive Scheme Involving Social Media Sales

A 27-year-old man from Moto, Ba, has been charged by the Fiji Police MPaisa Task Force for allegedly obtaining financial advantage through deception and possessing property suspected to be derived from criminal activity.

According to police investigations, between July 2023 and September 2024, the suspect reportedly operated several Facebook accounts to sell various items. He is accused of receiving around $1,400 from these sales, which were deposited into his bank account as well as through multiple mobile money transfers linked to his name.

The man faces six counts of Obtaining Financial Advantage by Deception and one count of Possession of Property Suspected to be Proceeds of Crime. He is scheduled to appear in Nadi Magistrates Court today.
