Fiji Lifts Movement Restrictions: What’s Next for Evacuees?

The Fiji National Disaster Risk Management Office has announced that movement restrictions in the Western Division have been lifted. In an update this evening, the NDRMO reported that there are currently eight active evacuation centers, accommodating a total of 79 households and 350 evacuees in this region.

Today, the distribution of essential supplies to the affected households within these centers took place. The Ministry of Health’s teams have also been visiting all evacuation centers to provide necessary medical support.

Various organizations have stepped up to support those in the evacuation centers. Notable contributions include:

– Freezco and the Red Cross providing 100 bottles of water and four hygiene kits to four evacuation centers in Nadi.
– The Hare Rama Hare Krishna team actively distributing food to evacuees in the Korovuto evacuation center.
– Empower Pacific offering vital psychosocial support at the evacuation centers in Nadi.

This coordinated effort among government services and community organizations exemplifies resilience and solidarity in the face of adversity. It highlights the importance of community involvement in disaster recovery, showcasing how various groups are coming together to support those in need.
