Fiji Launches Financial Services Ombudsman to Enhance Consumer Protection

The Financial Services Ombudsman (FSO) will serve as a neutral entity aimed at settling disputes between consumers and financial service providers governed by the Reserve Bank of Fiji.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad emphasized that the FSO will be essential in providing consumers with a dependable avenue for voicing their complaints, which will ultimately enhance trust in Fiji’s financial industry.

Consumers looking for assistance from the FSO must first utilize the existing complaint channels offered by the financial institutions.

The Reserve Bank of Fiji has appointed Wati Seeto as the first Financial Services Ombudsperson. Seeto brings a wealth of experience, with 25 years in the legal field, including 15 years focused on financial regulation and consumer protection.
