Fiji Launches Exciting Tax Amnesty Program: A Chance for Compliance!

The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) has unveiled a three-month Tax Amnesty Program set to take place from May 1 to July 31, 2025. This initiative targets both individuals and businesses, allowing them to address overdue tax returns, by filing unpaid taxes and making voluntary disclosures for any income that may have been omitted previously. It also includes the option to amend incorrect or incomplete returns from the past seven years, all while providing a waiver on most administrative penalties associated with these outstanding taxes.

This program is a proactive measure aimed at enhancing tax collection, lowering outstanding debts, and promoting compliance across Fiji’s tax landscape. The FRCS believes that enhancing tax compliance through this initiative will contribute positively to Fiji’s economic growth and create a more solid fiscal environment.

Eligible participants include those who, as of March 31, 2025, have not filed tax returns, have incorrect or incomplete filings, or owe both self-assessed or FRCS-assessed taxes. The amnesty program encompasses all taxes overseen by the FRCS, including Income Tax, VAT, PAYE, Customs Duties, and other applicable levies.

Applications will be processed via the Taxpayer Online Service (TPOS) portal, where each case will be reviewed individually. To benefit from the program, all taxes owed under the amnesty must be fully paid by July 31, 2025. However, individuals currently engaged in legal disputes with the FRCS or under criminal investigation, as well as those involved in fraudulent reporting, will not be eligible for the program.

This initiative is complemented by Fiji’s broader strategy for economic improvement, including the establishment of the Tax Compliance Taskforce under the FRCS, which aims to enhance tax governance and curb tax evasion. The government’s commitment to fostering transparency in the tax system showcases a hopeful outlook for economic stability and development in Fiji.

With strong emphasis on strengthening compliance measures, this amnesty program serves as an overdue chance for taxpayers to regularize their financial situations, helping to pave the way for a more resilient and fair tax system that ultimately benefits the entire nation.
