Fiji Labour Party Calls for Accountability Over Controversial Appointment

The Fiji Labour Party has called for the revocation of Barbara Malimali’s appointment if the Commission of Inquiry uncovers that the process was manipulated. In a statement, former Prime Minister and FLP Leader Mahendra Chaudhry emphasized that if the inquiry demonstrates improper adherence to the process, it should be dismissed entirely.

He made these comments in response to the Prime Minister’s assertion that the decision and process cannot be altered. Chaudhry highlighted the importance of maintaining the integrity of independent constitutional offices to enhance public trust.

He reiterated the role of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption as a vital oversight body, stressing that its appointments must not be influenced by potentially compromised processes. Chaudhry concluded by stating that good governance principles should always be upheld without exception.
