Fiji Labour Party Calls for Accountability in Controversial Appointment

The Fiji Labour Party has stated that if the Commission of Inquiry into Barbara Malimali’s appointment finds it to be manipulated, then that appointment should be revoked and those responsible should face consequences.

In a statement, Mahendra Chaudhry, the former Prime Minister and current FLP Leader, asserted that if the inquiry uncovers that the proper procedures were not followed and that the outcome was predetermined, then the appointment must be discarded.

Chaudhry was reacting to the Prime Minister’s comments earlier today, which indicated that the decision and process could not be altered.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of independent constitutional offices to foster public trust. Chaudhry pointed out that the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption serves as a guardian against corruption and should not be subject to compromised processes when appointing its officials.

He concluded by insisting that there should be no exceptions to the principles of good governance.
