Fiji Labour Party Calls for Accountability Amid Inquiry Controversy

Spread the love

The Fiji Labour Party asserts that if the Commission of Inquiry into Barbara Malimali’s appointment uncovers any manipulations, then her appointment should be revoked, and those responsible must be held accountable.

Former Prime Minister and FLP Leader Mahendra Chaudhry stated, “If the inquiry determines that the process was improperly conducted and designed to achieve a predetermined outcome, it should be discarded.”

His remarks were in response to the Prime Minister’s recent media comments asserting that the decision and process cannot be altered.

Chaudhry emphasized the importance of maintaining the independence of constitutional offices to ensure public trust in their integrity. He noted that the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption serves as a guardian against corruption and should not be subjected to flawed appointment processes.

“There must be no exceptions to the standards of good governance,” he remarked.
