Fiji Inmates’ Hunger Strike Sparks Human Rights Investigation

The Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission has announced that it is investigating the situation of two inmates who recently engaged in a hunger strike at the Naboro Maximum Corrections facility. A team from the Commission visited the inmates to discuss their concerns.

In a statement, the Commission reported that they were informed by the Fiji Corrections Service that the hunger strike was concluded last night. They also confirmed that a medical doctor has assessed the inmates’ health following the cessation of their strike.

Furthermore, the Fiji Correction Services confirmed that their medical team will carry out regular health evaluations to ensure the inmates remain in stable physical condition after their hunger strike. The service emphasized that the well-being of the inmates is a priority, and they are taking necessary measures to monitor their recovery closely.
