Filmmaker and content creator Reneel Singh has recently debuted his first single titled “Jungli” following a two-year journey of exploration and creativity. Based in Hamilton, New Zealand, Singh, whose parents hail from Fiji, expressed that the inspiration for “Jungli” stems from his deep appreciation for Fiji Indian culture rather than any formal music background.

Singh shared, “My roots are deeply connected to Fiji. My dad is from Nadi, and my mum is from Lautoka. They relocated to New Zealand before I was born, and I grew up in Rotorua, where my parents still reside.”

In his professional life, Singh operates a videography business in New Zealand, creating content for various events, but has recently shifted focus to producing works that specifically reflect the experiences of the Fiji Indian community. One of his proud accomplishments includes a six-episode web series titled “The Sunny Side of Ngongotaha,” which highlights the lives of Fiji Indians in New Zealand, and he has several short films in development.

Regarding “Jungli,” he noted, “I realized that we, as Fiji Indians, didn’t have a pop anthem to call our own, and I felt compelled to be the first to produce a high-quality song that our community could take pride in. It’s about storytelling and creating for my community rather than just being a singer.”

This marks Singh’s first foray into music, and he emphasized his desire to continue creating, saying the positive feedback he has received has motivated him to pursue further projects. He chose to create a party anthem to resonate with the celebratory nature of Fiji Indian culture. “Fiji Indians love to celebrate life—we enjoy our parties and gatherings. But we lacked an anthem that truly represented us, so I took it upon myself to create one,” he remarked.

The title “Jungli,” derived from a nickname Singh has held, encapsulates the wild, energetic spirit he believes reflects the community, being both playful and bold. He noted that the entire process of bringing the song to fruition took two years, with significant support from the local Fiji Indian community.

The response to “Jungli” has been overwhelmingly positive, with listeners and viewers praising the music and its accompanying video, particularly the visual effects featured on the Sky Tower and scenes of dancing atop buildings.

Singh cites the late Michael Jackson as a significant influence in his artistic endeavors, admiring Jackson’s ability to merge music with visual storytelling. He also credits his parents as major role models, instilling in him a dedication to hard work and authenticity.

With “Jungli” garnering recognition, Singh plans to continue creating entertainment content while exploring both music and film further. He has several new songs in the works, aims to delve into short films that reflect different aspects of the Fiji Indian experience, and is contemplating a feature film in the future.

“This is a pivotal moment for me to challenge myself and see how far I can go. It’s about pushing boundaries while celebrating and representing the Fiji Indian community in my work,” he stated.

He expressed gratitude to the Fijian community in New Zealand, acknowledging that the realization of this project would not have been possible without their support. “This song isn’t just mine—it belongs to everyone who helped bring it to life.”
