Fiji-India Connections Soar with New Direct Flight!

A new direct flight between Fiji and India is set to play a crucial role in strengthening the connections between the two nations, given their cultural similarities. In an exclusive interview, Fijian High Commissioner to India, His Excellency Jagnath Sami, highlighted the importance of the air link in enhancing cooperation across trade, tourism, and personal interactions.

With a significant portion of Fiji’s population of Indian descent, the new direct route will facilitate easier travel for Indo-Fijians, enhancing personal ties and cultural exchanges. Sami stated, “Direct flight is very important. This will help in promoting tourism. We need to lift our marketing here in India as well.”

Furthermore, the High Commissioner expressed hope that this flight would attract more direct investments from India to Fiji, particularly in technology, agriculture, and renewable energy sectors. “I think more tourists from India will go to Fiji if we establish this,” Sami noted, also mentioning ongoing discussions with filmmakers and tour groups to highlight Fiji as a travel destination.

Deputy Prime Minister Prof Biman Prasad confirmed that negotiations to establish the air route are progressing well. “Everything is on the table. The relationship is developing, and we expect it to grow significantly in the future,” he stated. He reiterated the Prime Minister’s commitment to strengthening ties with India, particularly in light of recent diplomatic engagements.
