The three hotels owned by FNPF in Fiji have announced their support for sexual diversity and inclusion in the workplace, making them the first hotel group to do so publicly. The hotels—InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel Suva, and Holiday Inn Suva—celebrated Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) during Pride Month in June.
In an effort to promote understanding of gender diversity among staff, the hotels signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Trans Affirmative Action Guild (TAAG). This initiative positions IHG as the first hospitality brand in Fiji to adopt such a progressive approach, reinforcing its aim to be an employer of choice in the region.
Lachlan Walker, Portfolio General Manager for IHG Hotels & Resorts, FNPF Owned Hotels, emphasized the company’s commitment to “True Hospitality for Good.” He stated that inclusion involves fostering a work culture that appreciates diverse backgrounds and ensures all employees can thrive in a positive, welcoming environment.
A group of DE&I champions, comprised of colleagues from various levels, is actively driving the inclusion agenda within the hotels. The June celebrations aimed to enhance the visibility of the LGBTQIA+ community at work and foster a culture of inclusivity.
Ratu Eroni Ledua Dina, co-founder and executive director of TAAG, praised the partnership with IHG Hotels & Resorts. He highlighted that this collaboration expands their advocacy and training initiatives, creating a meaningful impact on Fiji’s hospitality sector and paving the way for inclusivity and equality.
To commemorate Pride Month, the DE&I Committee organized discussions on the importance of Pride and displayed the “Pride Flag” prominently at all three hotels. LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, celebrated globally every June, commemorates the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall riots and seeks to honor and support the LGBTQIA+ community.
