Fiji Heartstrings: An Australian Couple’s Emotional Return

An Australian couple, Owen and Christine Twist, are thrilled to be back in Fiji. They were among the over 2000 passengers on the P&O Cruises Australia cruise ship that docked in Lautoka on Monday. The Twists lived in Fiji during the early 1970s while serving the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Suva.

“It feels so good to be back in Fiji. We were hoping to meet some of our local friends we’ve connected with through social media,” Mr. Twist shared. He initially came to Fiji for two years but loved the people so much that he ended up staying for nine. “Fiji has always held a special place in our hearts,” he added.

The couple’s daughters, who are now nurses, spent part of their childhood in Fiji, which made their return visit even more special. They expressed their appreciation for the lasting friendships they formed during their time on the islands.

During their visit, the couple also brought home Fijian souvenirs after purchasing handicrafts from local woodcarver Jone Sito. The cruise ship is scheduled to make its next stop in Taveuni before heading back to Sydney.
