Fiji Government Takes Bold Steps Against Drug Crisis

Ratu Josaia Niudamu commended the establishment of the Narcotic Bureau and the allocation of funds to the Fiji Police Force for drug testing equipment, demonstrating the government’s proactive approach to combating the drug issue.

“I’m also grateful that funding will be given to the Fiji Police Force to acquire drug testing equipment to increase drug tests nationwide,” he stated.

He recognized the creation of the Narcotic Bureau, along with a special drug unit within the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, underscoring the government’s dedication to addressing drug-related problems.

Mr. Niudamu also highlighted the Drug Rehabilitation Incentive Package, designed to encourage the private sector and civil society organizations to establish drug rehabilitation centers. This initiative aims to provide comprehensive support for individuals battling drug addiction, aiding their reintegration into society.

The increasing use of hard drugs in Fiji is a growing concern, and Mr. Niudamu urged all Fijians to work together to tackle this issue.

“I’m calling on all Fijians to unite and resolve the drug problem as people are shifting from marijuana to hard drugs, which is a very troubling situation.”
