The Fiji Golf Club hosted its well-known monthly medal tournament yesterday on its picturesque course in Vatuwaqa, attracting a significant turnout of 105 participants.
Frank Chan, a club member since 2010, was among the competitors in this prestigious event that featured some of the club’s top players. “This is one of those tournaments where we compete with the best in the clubs,” Chan remarked.
He noted that all players competed from the black tees, which are traditionally used by professionals. Despite the challenging weather, Chan expressed optimism, highlighting that the players were performing well. “It’s a big field today, and despite the weather, we’re doing well. This monthly medal is all about pushing ourselves to play to our handicap or even better,” he stated.
Chan emphasized the dual benefits of golf, indicating its social and physical aspects. “Apart from the competition, it’s a bit of rest and relaxation, as well as a great way to get some exercise,” he said. He encouraged individuals from all backgrounds to take up the sport, noting that it has something to offer everyone.
In terms of results, Isei Verevakabau claimed the men’s overall gross title. In the A Grade category, Eddie Yuen took first place, followed by Arvind Sharma and Steve Vincent.
