The Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) has reaffirmed its commitment to aiding children diagnosed with cancer by donating $32,819 to WOWS Kids Fiji. This contribution, acquired from proceeds during various football tournaments, was presented at the opening ceremony of the FMF Inter District Championship held at Churchill Park in Lautoka last week.
This latest donation is part of Fiji FA’s ongoing collaboration with WOWS Kids Fiji, an organization focused on assisting children who are facing cancer. Fiji FA President Rajesh Patel underscored the association’s dedication to social responsibility and the significance of supporting these children in their battle against the illness. “We are happy to be in this fight with WOWS Kids, and we will continue to be in it together,” Patel remarked.
The funds were generated through events such as the Fiji FACT and the Rooster Chicken/Scoops Ice Cream Battle of the Giants Tournament, where $1 from each ticket sale was directed to the foundation. Since the Pacific Community Cup in 2022, Fiji FA has been donating to WOWS Kids.
Patel noted that this contribution is consistent with Fiji FA’s wider commitment to corporate social responsibility and its Football for Humanity initiative, aimed at assisting disadvantaged children. Last year, the organization donated $37,532, and Patel expressed appreciation to football fans for their contributions to this cause.
Vilash Chand, vice-chair of WOWS Kids, extended heartfelt thanks on behalf of the organization. “On behalf of our founders and board, we are extremely grateful to Fiji football. The donations have helped save many children’s lives by lessening the financial strain on families struggling to afford treatments,” he stated. This ongoing support will continue to provide essential care and treatment access for affected children and their families.
