Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica expressed optimism about the progress of the Fiji Water Flying Fijians, stating that the team is nearing the status of a Tier One nation in the rugby world. His comments came after the team achieved notable victories against Wales and Spain during their recent European tour.

In a social media update, Kamikamica emphasized that regardless of the outcome of their upcoming match against Ireland, the Flying Fijians are on the right trajectory. He suggested that playing regularly against Tier One nations over the next two to three years could significantly elevate Fiji’s standing in international rugby.

Reflecting on the team’s performance, he noted, “I have been trying to remember a time when Fiji won two games in a row on a Northern Hemisphere tour,” highlighting the rarity and importance of these victories. He commended the strategic decisions made during the tour, such as including the Drua Team in the matchup against Scotland and rotating European-based players against Wales, which illustrates the depth and potential of Fiji’s squad.

Kamikamica concluded by congratulating coach Mick and the team for a successful tour while expressing his excitement for the possibilities ahead. He remarked that if Fiji brings their best game against Ireland, it could lead to historic achievements for the team.

Looking ahead, the Flying Fijians are set to face Ireland in their final test match of the season at Aviva Stadium, scheduled for 3:10 AM on Sunday.

This article highlights the promising future for Fiji rugby, with growing support and recognition at the international level. With continued dedication and performance improvements, the Flying Fijians may soon be able to claim their status among the elite in the sport.
