Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica has expressed optimism regarding the potential elevation of the FIJI Water Flying Fijians to Tier One status in global rugby. Following the team’s commendable victories over Wales and Spain during their recent European tour, Kamikamica took to social media to share his thoughts.
He stated, “Regardless of the outcome against Ireland next week, the Flying Fijians are on the cusp. With two to three more years of regular matches against Tier One nations, we could see remarkable progress.” Kamikamica expressed hope that the team will engage more often with Southern Hemisphere teams, which could enhance their skills and experience.
Reflecting on the recent successes, he recalled, “I can’t recall a time when Fiji won back-to-back games on a Northern Hemisphere tour,” underscoring the significance of their current achievements. He recognized the successes of the tour and the promising talent emerging from the team, noting the mix of local players and those based in Europe contributing to the squad’s depth.
Kamikamica congratulated coach Mick and the team for their efforts, affirming, “Regardless of what happens next week, this Tour has been a success.” He indicated that if the Flying Fijians bring their best to the upcoming game, it could lead to a historic victory.
As the team prepares to face Ireland at the Aviva Stadium in their final match, scheduled for 3:10 AM on Sunday, there is a renewed sense of hope and excitement surrounding Fijian rugby, indicating a bright future ahead.
This showcases not only the growth of the Flying Fijians as a competitive team but also highlights the potential for greater recognition on the world stage. With continued hard work and support, the dream of achieving Tier One status is becoming increasingly attainable.
