The Fiji Police Force has implemented restrictions on movement in the towns of Ba, Tavua, and Rakiraki in response to increasing water levels. Assistant Commissioner of Police for Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized that these precautions are essential for ensuring public safety and protecting infrastructure from potential damage and opportunistic behaviors.

Currently, four evacuation centers have been established in the Western Division, providing shelter for 226 people, with the possibility of more individuals seeking refuge should the rain continue. The Ba to Rakiraki highway is currently closed, making Tavua Town inaccessible. Police are actively evacuating residents from at-risk areas and are prepared to monitor and respond to further developments in the situation.

This proactive response from the authorities highlights the importance of community safety and resilience during adverse weather conditions. The ongoing efforts to evacuate and shelter those affected reflect a commitment to protect the lives of residents and minimize the impact of flooding. As the situation evolves, it is crucial for community members to stay updated and follow any directives from local authorities.
