Japan is currently leading the United States in online searches for flights to Fiji, according to Tourism Fiji. India has also emerged as one of the two countries showing an increase in flight searches.
Australia and New Zealand continue to be the top sources for flight inquiries to Fiji, as reported by the tourism organization. Brent Hill, the CEO of Tourism Fiji, expressed satisfaction with the engagement from core countries using their website to search for flights to Fiji.
Hill noted, “It’s encouraging to see Japan making significant progress in search rankings, indicating a growing interest among Japanese tourists in Fiji and their online search behavior for flights and activities.”
He added that hotel occupancy remains robust, with July expected to be a strong month. Forward bookings also suggest solid numbers for the future. “Our primary markets remain Australia, New Zealand, and the United States,” he stated.
While a slight downturn in flight searches from New Zealand has been anticipated due to economic factors such as inflation and high interest rates, overall figures from New Zealand have remained stable. Recently, flight searches increased by 1.9 percent from Australia and 0.6 percent from India, while searches from New Zealand and Japan decreased by 1.2 and 0.4 percent, respectively.
Regarding accommodation, Fiji has recorded an average occupancy rate of 86 percent for July, with forward bookings predicting an average occupancy of 79 percent for August and 66 percent for October. The countries leading accommodation searches include Australia (35 percent), New Zealand (31 percent), and the United States (9.6 percent). There have been declines in accommodation searches from Canada, down 1.0 percent, and New Zealand, down 0.9 percent.
