Japan is currently outpacing the United States in flight searches to Fiji, as reported by Tourism Fiji. Additionally, India has emerged as one of two countries with a notable rise in flight inquiries.

Australia and New Zealand continue to be the top countries looking for flights to Fiji. Brent Hill, the CEO of Tourism Fiji, noted that the core markets are actively utilizing the Tourism Fiji website for flight searches, which is promising.

Hill remarked, “It’s encouraging to see a country like Japan—where we are putting significant effort into increasing tourism—climbing the search rankings, indicating a growing interest among Japanese tourists in Fiji and their online searches for flights and activities.”

He also mentioned that occupancy rates remain robust, anticipating July to maintain strong numbers, with forward bookings suggesting continued solid performance.

“Our primary markets remain Australia, New Zealand, and the United States. We have anticipated a slight decrease in searches from New Zealand due to evident economic challenges such as inflation and high interest rates, but overall numbers from New Zealand are holding steady,” he said.

Recent data shows a rise in flight searches from Australia, up by 1.9 percent, along with a 0.6 percent increase from India. Meanwhile, searches from New Zealand and Japan declined by 1.2 percent and 0.4 percent, respectively.

In terms of accommodation, Fiji recorded an average occupancy of 86 percent in July, with forward bookings estimating 79 percent for August and 66 percent for October. The leading countries searching for accommodation are Australia at 35 percent, New Zealand at 31 percent, and the United States at 9.6 percent. There has been a slight decline in accommodation searches from Canada and New Zealand, down by 1.0 percent and 0.9 percent, respectively.
