Fiji Farmers Trained in Organic Agriculture and Agroecology at Navuso Learning Farm Centre

Nearly 50 small-scale farmers received training in organic agriculture and agroecology at the Navuso Learning Farm Centre last week. The three-day program was part of the Pacific Organic Learning Farms Network (POLFN) project’s aim to educate small-scale farmers about organic agriculture and agroecology, as well as support their transition to organic farming practices.

Emosi Cagi, Fiji’s in-country coordinator for the POLFN project, stated that the Navuso Organic Learning Farm Centre is providing more than just farming instruction. It is also enabling farmers to opt for organic methods for the health of the soil, their families, and their communities.

Isei Tudreu, one of the farmer participants, expressed his gratitude for the training, particularly the discussion on soil health and the establishment of a soil fertility management system through agroforestry. Tudreu runs an organic farm with his wife, Daphne, in Sabeto, Nadi.

In addition, the same training was conducted at the Mudrenacagi Organic Learning Centre in Bua. The POLFN project, funded by the Kiwa Initiative, aims to reach 100 farmers across Fiji.
