Fiji Faces Water Supply Disruptions as Urgent Repairs Underway

The Water Authority of Fiji has announced the isolation of its raw water pipeline leading to the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant in Savura to conduct urgent repairs on a damaged washout valve. The damage occurred due to flash flooding early this morning, which caused a tree trunk to collide with the valve of the main raw water line.

Samuela Rokovaleusa, the WAF Manager for Regional Operations, emphasized the importance of repairing the valve to ensure water production and operational integrity. He noted that significant amounts of water are currently being lost, as it is being discharged from the pipe without reaching the treatment plant.

The isolation of the pipeline is set to begin today and is anticipated to last overnight. Rokovaleusa informed that residents in the vicinity will likely face disruptions in their water supply during this time. He assured the public that his team is committed to minimizing inconvenience and will work diligently to finish the repairs swiftly, while also providing water carting assistance where needed.

Residents are advised to prepare for this temporary water disruption.
