A low-pressure trough is currently positioned over the Fiji Group, bringing clouds and heavy showers to the region. According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, this system is slowly moving eastward and is expected to impact weather conditions today.

Throughout the day, showers will likely continue in areas including Suva, Nausori, and Tailevu, as well as Sigatoka, Coral Coast, the interior of Ra-Rakiraki, Naitasiri, Serua, Namosi, Lau, and the Lomaiviti Group. In addition, cloudy weather with some rain is anticipated, particularly accompanied by thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening, which could result in localized heavy falls. This increase in rainfall may lead to concerns about flash flooding, especially in low-lying areas.

Looking ahead to Sunday, the forecast suggests that the greater Suva-Nausori-Tailevu areas, along with the interior regions of Ra-Rakiraki, Naitasiri, and Serua-Namosi, should expect continued cloudy conditions with some showers. Meanwhile, southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Lau, and the Lomaiviti groups could also experience similar weather, although other regions are expected to remain predominantly fine, with only isolated showers likely.

As this weather system progresses, it’s crucial for residents to stay aware of local weather updates and take precautions if necessary to mitigate the effects of potential flooding. With each change in weather, the community’s resilience shines through as they adapt to the challenges posed by nature.
