Fiji Faces Heavy Showers: What to Expect Today

A low-pressure trough is currently moving slowly over the Fiji Group, bringing clouds and heavy showers to the region. According to reports from the Fiji Meteorological Service, this weather system is gradually shifting eastward.

Residents can expect rain throughout the day, particularly in areas including Suva, Nausori, and Tailevu, as well as Sigatoka, the Coral Coast, and parts of Ra-Rakiraki. The Naitasiri, Serua, Namosi, Lau, and Lomaiviti regions are also likely to experience occasional showers.

In addition to the rain, there will be cloudy periods with a chance of thunderstorms later in the day, which could lead to localized heavy rainfall and potentially flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Looking ahead to Sunday, the forecast suggests continued cloudy conditions with some showers predicted for the greater Suva-Nausori-Tailevu areas, as well as in interior Ra-Rakiraki, Naitasiri, and Serua-Namosi. Conversely, other areas may experience clearer conditions with only isolated afternoon or evening showers.

In the face of the wet weather, communities should stay informed and prepare for possible flooding, while remaining hopeful that the rains will eventually give way to clearer skies. The rain, while disruptive, is also essential for replenishing water supplies and supporting agriculture in the region.
