The Nadi weather office has reported that flash floods are occurring in various regions of Fiji this afternoon due to a combination of heavy rainfall and high tide. According to the Fiji Meteorological Service’s 5:00 PM special weather bulletin, a flash flood warning is currently in effect for all low-lying areas, particularly those prone to flash flooding, as well as for small streams in the Sigatoka area.
“High intensity rainfall has been recorded in the area over the past hour, coinciding with high tide and leading to flash flooding,” a representative from Fiji Met stated. Areas such as Sigatoka town and Lawaqa Road, along with other vulnerable locations in Sigatoka, have already reported flash flooding incidents.
The warning extends to other parts of Fiji, including all low-lying and flood-prone areas as well as small streams in Vanua Levu, greater Lami, Suva, Nausori, Tailevu, and Naitasiri.
