The Electoral Commission of Fiji (ECF) convened today in its quasi-judicial role to consider an appeal from Opposition Member of Parliament Alvick Maharaj regarding the Registrar of Political Parties’ decision to deregister the Fiji First Party, effective from July 1, 2024.

ECF Chair Barbara Malimali announced that the process is currently underway, and they expect to release their decision once the proceedings are complete.

Malimali emphasized that until a decision is made, the commission will refrain from commenting on the matter.

She expressed hope that the public in Fiji will appreciate the need for discretion and exercise patience during this period.
