Fijian Drua Academy athletes Seremaia Salikoro and Sefania Naqama are set to enhance their skills and knowledge as they begin an exciting new journey at Tauranga Boys College. The young players have been awarded full scholarships through a collaborative initiative between Fiji Drua and Tauranga Boys College.
Salikoro, hailing from Natabua High School, has secured a three-year scholarship, while Naqama, a student from Sila Central High School in Nausori, will benefit from a two-year scholarship. Their selection was made by Regan Ward, the First XV Coach at Tauranga Boys College, and Senior Rugby Coordinator Aidan Kuka, who recognized their potential during a week spent observing the Drua.
Fijian Drua General Manager Baden Stephenson expressed excitement about the partnership, emphasizing that it represents a significant opportunity for Salikoro and Naqama. “The partnership will be a life-changing experience for our first two scholarship holders,” he stated. He highlighted that both players, who are only 16 years old, will receive a quality education, experience a new culture, and be immersed in a top-level rugby environment.
Additionally, Stephenson assured that Salikoro and Naqama will return to Fijian Drua once their scholarships conclude, reinforcing that the organization will maintain close ties with them and support their rugby development throughout their time in New Zealand. He noted the shared values between the two institutions, emphasizing their commitment to fostering personal growth both on and off the field.
This collaboration not only promises to enrich the lives of these two young athletes but also showcases the positive impact of international partnerships in sports education.
In summary, this scholarship initiative between Fiji Drua and Tauranga Boys College is a remarkable opportunity for Salikoro and Naqama, paving the way for their growth in both academics and athletics while fostering cultural exchange.
