Opposition member Parveen Bala has expressed concerns that the Fiji Day celebration did not encompass all segments of society. In a recent statement, he pointed out that the event overlooked divisional celebrations and failed to include students from special schools and senior citizens.
Bala noted that previous celebrations made special efforts to include these groups, promoting a message of inclusion, harmony, and progress for all Fijians. He highlighted that in earlier years, special schools were acknowledged and celebrated with gift packs. In contrast, he described this year’s celebration as a missed chance to enhance national confidence and reaffirm Fiji’s unity.
He emphasized the need for improvement, stating that Fiji Day should serve as a platform to strengthen the country’s unity and showcase national progress, a goal that past governments successfully achieved by engaging with all sectors of society.
