Opposition member Parveen Bala has expressed concerns that the Fiji Day celebration did not adequately include all segments of society. In a statement, he pointed out that this year’s event failed to incorporate celebrations from various divisions and did not involve students from special schools or senior citizens.
He noted, “In previous years, special measures were taken to include these groups, showcasing inclusion, harmony, and progress for all Fijians.” Bala highlighted that special schools were recognized and celebrated with gift packs in the past, while this year’s celebration seemed to overlook these efforts, which he views as a missed opportunity to foster national confidence and unity.
Bala emphasized that the occasion should serve as a platform to enhance the nation’s cohesion and showcase collective progress. He lamented that previous governments effectively emphasized engagement with all sectors of society to achieve this goal.
