Opposition member Parveen Bala has expressed concerns that the recent Fiji Day celebrations did not adequately include all segments of society. He pointed out in a statement that the festivities overlooked divisional celebrations, and there was a lack of participation from students in special schools and senior citizens.
Bala noted that in previous celebrations, special efforts were made to ensure these groups were recognized, emphasizing inclusivity, harmony, and progress for all Fijians. He observed that gift packs had been distributed in past events to special schools, making this year’s celebration seem like a missed chance to foster national confidence and reaffirm the unity of Fiji.
He stressed the importance of making Fiji Day more than just a symbolic gesture, advocating for it to serve as a platform to strengthen national unity and highlight the country’s advancements. Bala pointed out that past governments successfully included all areas of society in the celebrations, promoting a sense of engagement and togetherness.
