The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) has introduced a new Personal Conduct and Marital Integrity Policy that aims to enhance the professional behavior and integrity of its officers and staff. This policy emphasizes the importance of maintaining high ethical standards and behaviors that honor the organization’s reputation.
The new guidelines will clarify expected conduct within marital and committed relationships, specifically targeting extramarital affairs that may negatively impact the public perception of FCS. It will also outline expectations for professional behavior both in and out of the workplace, recognizing the high standard of public trust placed on FCS officers.
Commissioner Jalesi Nakarawa remarked that this initiative underscores FCS’s commitment to professionalism, integrity, and public trust. He stated, “Integrity in personal relationships is not merely a private matter for FCS staff; it directly affects public perception of the service.” He further emphasized that the policy outlines the expectation for officers to exhibit ethical behavior in all aspects of their lives.
Currently, the policy is undergoing a review and will involve consultations prior to its official implementation. Once in effect, violations could lead to disciplinary measures, which may vary from counseling and reprimands to suspension or dismissal, depending on the gravity of the offense.
The policy will also provide support mechanisms, including counseling services, for staff dealing with personal issues, reflecting FCS’s commitment to employee welfare while upholding the highest standards of conduct. It will apply to all FCS employees, focusing on key areas such as marital and relationship integrity, professional behavior in the workplace, and maintaining a positive public image.
