The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) has introduced a proposed policy aimed at promoting high standards of personal conduct and integrity among its personnel. The new Personal Conduct and Marital Integrity Policy underscores the necessity for FCS officers and staff to adhere to professional and ethical standards, highlighting their responsibility to exhibit behavior that casts a positive light on the organization.
This initiative will establish explicit guidelines concerning conduct in marital and committed relationships, particularly targeting actions such as extramarital affairs that could tarnish the reputation of the service. The policy delineates expectations for professional behavior both within and outside the workplace, as FCS officers are held to a high degree of public trust.
Dr. Jalesi Nakarawa, Commissioner of Corrections, affirmed that this policy represents the FCS’s persistent dedication to professionalism, integrity, and earning public confidence. He emphasized that the integrity of personal relationships is not merely a private affair for FCS staff, as it has a direct influence on the public’s perception of the service.
“Maintaining integrity in personal relationships is not just a private matter for FCS staff. It directly impacts how the service is perceived by the public. This policy sends a clear message that we expect our officers to be role models of ethical behavior and to maintain high standards both in their personal lives and professional duties,” stated Dr. Nakarawa.
The policy will apply to all employees of the Fiji Corrections Service and incorporates support mechanisms, including counseling services, for those facing personal challenges. Once finalized, any breach of the policy could lead to disciplinary measures ranging from counseling and reprimand to suspension or termination, depending on the severity of the violation.
Currently, the policy is under review and will undergo consultations before its official rollout.
