The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) has introduced a new Personal Conduct and Marital Integrity Policy designed to enhance the professional behavior and integrity of its personnel. This policy emphasizes the importance of maintaining high ethical standards and upholding the organization’s reputation.
Key aspects of the policy include clear guidelines that govern conduct in marital and committed relationships, particularly targeting the prevention of extramarital affairs that may harm the FCS’s public image. It also establishes expectations for professional behavior both at work and in personal life, recognizing the elevated standard of public trust that FCS officers are required to maintain.
FCS Commissioner Jalesi Nakarawa remarked that this initiative underscores the service’s dedication to professionalism, integrity, and public confidence. “Integrity in personal relationships is not solely a private matter for FCS staff; it directly influences public perception of the service,” he stated. “This policy sets out our expectation for officers to exhibit ethical behavior in both their personal and professional lives.”
The proposed policy is currently under review and will go through a consultation process before it is formally adopted. If enacted, violations of the policy could lead to disciplinary measures ranging from counseling and reprimands to suspension or termination, depending on the seriousness of the infractions.
In addition, the policy will provide support systems, including counseling services, for employees who may face personal difficulties. This feature reinforces FCS’s commitment to employee welfare while promoting the highest standards of conduct.
The Personal Conduct and Marital Integrity Policy will be applicable to all FCS staff and will focus on critical areas such as marital and relationship integrity, professional behavior in the workplace, and sustaining a positive public image.
