Fiji Corrections Service Stops Free Tent Loans: What It Means for Community Events

The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) has announced that it will no longer offer tents for personal or community events on a loan basis at no cost. This decision, made by FCS Commissioner Dr. Jalesi Nakarawa, is effective immediately and is attributed to rising operational demands.

For many years, the FCS has supported a wide range of community events by providing tents, accommodating gatherings of various sizes, including those requiring capacity for up to 300 people. Dr. Nakarawa noted that the officers have taken pride in assisting the community with the setup and dismantling of these tents to ensure the success of such events.

However, Dr. Nakarawa emphasized that due to the current pressures on their resources and personnel, it has become increasingly difficult for the FCS to maintain this service without affecting their primary duties. He also mentioned that the time and manpower needed for tent setup and dismantling must now be redirected to meet essential operational needs within the service.
