The Fiji Corrections Service has introduced a proposed policy aimed at promoting high standards of personal conduct and integrity among its officers and staff.
The new Personal Conduct and Marital Integrity Policy underscores the importance of maintaining professional and ethical behavior within the service, stressing that all personnel must exhibit conduct that positively reflects on the Fiji Corrections Service (FCS).
This policy will establish clear guidelines regarding conduct in marital and committed relationships, particularly focusing on preventing behaviors such as extramarital affairs that could tarnish the service’s reputation.
Additionally, the policy sets expectations for professional behavior, both in and out of the workplace, given that FCS officers are entrusted with significant public confidence.
Dr. Jalesi Nakarawa, the Commissioner of Corrections, stated that the policy demonstrates the FCS’s ongoing dedication to professionalism, integrity, and public trust. He emphasized that personal relationship integrity is not solely a private issue for FCS staff; it directly influences public perception of the service.
“Maintaining integrity in personal relationships is not just a private matter for FCS staff. It directly impacts how the service is perceived by the public. This policy sends a clear message that we expect our officers to be role models of ethical behavior and to uphold high standards in both their personal and professional lives,” Dr. Nakarawa stated.
This policy, which will apply to all employees of the Fiji Corrections Service, also includes support mechanisms, such as counseling services, for staff facing personal challenges. Once finalized, breaches of this policy could lead to disciplinary actions, which may range from counseling and reprimands to suspension or termination, depending on the infraction’s severity.
The policy is presently under review and will undergo consultations before its official implementation.
