Fiji Corrections Service Sets New Standard for Personal Conduct

The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) is set to introduce a new policy emphasizing the importance of personal conduct and marital integrity among its personnel. This initiative aims to prevent any behavior, in public or private, that could tarnish the reputation of the FCS.

Commissioner Dr. Jalesi Nakarawa stated that this policy underscores the organization’s commitment to professionalism and integrity, which are essential for maintaining public trust. He emphasized that maintaining integrity in personal relationships is not solely a private issue for staff members; it is a reflection of their roles as representatives of the FCS.

The proposed policy clearly outlines expectations for officers to serve as ethical role models, holding high standards in both their personal and professional lives. Before its official launch, the policy will undergo a consultation process.

Once implemented, violations of the policy could lead to various forms of disciplinary actions, including counseling, reprimanding, suspension, or termination, depending on the severity of the breach. This policy will be applicable to all employees and will specifically address the importance of marital and relationship integrity, requiring staff to uphold respect and commitment in their marriages or partnerships. Influencing factors such as public extramarital affairs that harm the FCS’s reputation will not be tolerated.
