A Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) officer at the Lautoka Correctional Centre is facing disciplinary action after using force to ensure a prisoner’s compliance, resulting in a minor facial injury.
The officer did not report the incident, violating FCS regulations.
The FCS was notified by the prisoner’s pastor, leading to an investigation that confirmed the officer’s use of force.
The injured prisoner was sent to a hospital for a medical examination to ensure his well-being.
In a statement on Facebook, the FCS acknowledged that the force used was deemed necessary to maintain order. However, the failure to report the incident was against protocol, leading to the disciplinary action.
