The Fiji Corrections Service has announced that it will no longer provide tents on a loan basis free of charge for personal or community events. This decision, made by FCS Commissioner Dr. Jalesi Nakarawa, is effective immediately and comes as a response to increasing operational demands.
Historically, the FCS has supported various community events by lending tents at no cost, accommodating gatherings from small meetings to large functions that required tents for up to 300 people. Dr. Nakarawa emphasized that their officers have taken pride in assisting the community by both setting up and dismantling these tents to ensure the success of the events.
However, as operational demands continue to grow, the FCS finds it increasingly difficult to maintain this service without affecting their core duties. Dr. Nakarawa noted that the setup and dismantling of tents involved a substantial commitment of time and personnel, which must now be reassigned to meet essential operational requirements within the service.
