Fiji Corrections Service Ends Free Tent Loans Amid Rising Demands

The Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) has announced that it will no longer offer tents on loan free of charge for personal or community events, effective immediately. FCS Commissioner Dr. Jalesi Nakarawa cited increasing operational demands as the reason for this decision.

For many years, the FCS has provided support for numerous community gatherings by lending tents for various functions, accommodating events ranging from small get-togethers to large functions requiring tents for up to 300 people. Dr. Nakarawa expressed pride in the officers’ dedication to assisting the community by not only providing the tents but also setting them up and dismantling them to ensure events were successful.

However, he emphasized that due to current demands on resources and personnel, it has become increasingly difficult for the FCS to offer this service without impacting their core duties and responsibilities. The commissioner noted that the process of setting up and taking down the tents has required a significant amount of time and manpower, which will now be reallocated to meet essential operational needs within the service.
