Fiji Corrections Service Ends Free Tent Loan Program Amid Rising Demands

The Fiji Corrections Service has announced that it will no longer offer tents for personal or community events free of charge. This decision, made by FCS Commissioner Dr. Jalesi Nakarawa, is effective immediately and is attributed to rising operational demands.

For years, the FCS has provided tents for various community activities, accommodating gatherings of all sizes, including those needing tents for up to 300 people. Dr. Nakarawa emphasized the agency’s commitment to supporting the community by assisting with the setup and dismantling of tents to help ensure the success of these events.

However, due to current pressures on resources and personnel, maintaining this service has become increasingly difficult without affecting their primary responsibilities. He noted that the setup and breakdown of tents require a considerable investment of time and manpower, which must now be reallocated to meet the critical operational needs of the service.
