The Criminal Investigations Department is probing allegations circulating online that link a senior member of Government to a person of interest, the Fiji Police Force confirmed in a statement issued today.
Police said the senior official voluntarily came forward in late March 2026 to lodge a formal report requesting that the allegations be investigated. The matter is now being handled by senior CID investigators, the statement said, and remains an active inquiry. No charges have been laid and police provided no further detail about the nature of the claims or the identities of those involved.
In its statement, the Fiji Police Force urged the public to allow investigators to carry out their work without interference and to exercise caution when sharing information on social media. “Everyone deserves a fair opportunity to respond to claims made,” the release said, adding that freedom of expression must be exercised responsibly and that rumours can unfairly malign individuals while hampering formal inquiries.
The force warned that investigations can be time-consuming and warned against the spread of unverified material, saying social media users should carefully discern the information they consume and forward. Police reiterated that the formal investigative process is the appropriate avenue for establishing facts and resolving allegations.
The latest development comes amid heightened public scrutiny of law enforcement matters in Fiji over the past year. Prior reporting in this news cluster has tracked several high-profile probes — including an international pursuit last December for a mystery figure tied to an alleged police-related drug trade and separate allegations of bribery involving a senior officer — that have kept policing and anti‑corruption work in the public eye.
Police did not indicate whether the current probe connects to any of those earlier inquiries, nor did they provide a timeline for when the CID expects to conclude its work. The force also did not say whether interviews or forensic checks have been completed in relation to the claims now under review.
As the CID continues its work, the statement serves as both a procedural update and a public appeal: investigations must be allowed to progress on the basis of evidence, police said, while members of the public are reminded to avoid amplifying unverified reports that could prejudice outcomes or damage reputations.
