Fiji Celebrates Unity: The Chinese Community Shines During Festival Events

The Chinese community has played a crucial role in Fiji’s multicultural landscape, making considerable contributions to the nation’s growth and cultural richness.

During the China National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival 2024 celebration in Suva, Fiji’s President, His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, acknowledged the significant impact of Chinese traditions, values, and industriousness in shaping Fiji into its vibrant and inclusive identity.

President Katonivere emphasized that the Moon Festival serves as a reminder of the core values that unite people, such as family (veiwekani), unity, and love for one another (veilomani).

“As we gather today, we reflect on the significance of these values in our lives and within our community. The spirit of the festival represents harmony and completeness, showcasing the unity and strength of our diverse society in Fiji,” he stated.

This event also aligned with the Coalition Government’s efforts to enhance people-to-people connections between Fiji and China, marking a pioneering initiative for any Pacific Island nation.
