Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka participated in a lively celebration for the Republic of Korea’s National Day on Thursday evening, held aboard the ROKS Hansando, a South Korean naval ship docked at Suva Wharf.
The event was organized by the Korean Embassy in Fiji and served to highlight the strong diplomatic and friendship ties between the two countries, which have been established since 1971. The ROKS Hansando, which serves as a helicopter training vessel and has a crew of 290, is currently on a 110-day tour that includes stops at eight different countries and 10 ports. This visit marks the ship’s eighth trip to Fiji, underlining the strong defense and maritime partnership between Korea and Fiji.
Korean Ambassador to Fiji, His Excellency Jin-Hyung Kim, addressed the attendees, emphasizing the growing bilateral relations in areas such as trade, culture, tourism, defense, and security. He expressed appreciation for the presence of all guests celebrating Korea’s National Day away from their homeland.
The ship’s deck was adorned with festive decorations, including Korean flags and lights, creating a celebratory atmosphere. Attendees were treated to traditional Korean cuisine, beverages, and cultural performances that highlighted Korea’s rich heritage.
The evening concluded with a ceremonial toast led by Prime Minister Rabuka and Ambassador Jin-Hyung, symbolizing the enduring partnership and friendship between the two nations.
This celebration reflects not only the strong ties between Fiji and Korea but also a commitment to cultural exchange and mutual cooperation. As both nations continue to collaborate on various fronts, the future looks promising for their relationship.
