Fiji Celebrates Heroes: President Presents Prestigious Awards

The President of Fiji, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, awarded the Order of Fiji and 50th Anniversary medals during a ceremony held at the State House today.

The event also acknowledged the contributions of senior civil servants and granted permanent Fijian citizenship to seven recipients. President Katonivere expressed his appreciation for the medal recipients, praising their dedication to advancing Fiji’s national interests.

“I acknowledge all the awardees here today and thank you for your commitment to our humble call from my office to be recognized today. To our servicemen recipients in the disciplined forces, thank you for your service to the nation and your contribution to global peace,” he stated.

The ceremony recognized individuals in three categories: The Order of Fiji in both General and Military Divisions, the 50th Anniversary Commemorative Medal, and the Civil Service Medals.

“Awards are an impactful tool. They drive us to achieve higher and bring about changes in ourselves and within the spheres we operate. Your award should motivate you to positively influence others,” President Katonivere remarked.

Seven individuals also received Certificates of Citizenship from the President. “I personally congratulate each and every one of you for gaining your Fiji residency united under our noble blue banner, a national symbol of solidarity,” he said. He added that citizenship fosters a sense of belonging and invokes inclusion in society.

The 50th Anniversary medals are part of the ongoing celebrations commemorating Fiji’s independence, which was achieved in 1970, recognizing those who have made significant contributions to the nation’s development over the years.
