The Mid-Autumn Festival celebration in Fiji highlights the nation’s diversity and respect for China. Also known as the Moon Festival, the event was celebrated by the Chinese community in Fiji with gratitude, joy, and a spirit of sharing.
During the festivities in Suva, Fiji’s President Wiliame Kotonivere expressed his appreciation for the contributions of the Chinese farming community. He noted their vital role in cultivating everyday food crops and providing families with locally grown vegetables. He further acknowledged their efforts in enhancing the development of Fiji’s agricultural exports.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is a significant occasion for the Chinese community, celebrating the harvest season and emphasizing family reunions, thankfulness, and communal joy. Mr. Kotonivere reflected on the festival’s embodiment of unity and love, which he referred to as veiwekani and veilomani, respectively. He emphasized the importance of these values in community life.
