President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere presented the Order of Fiji and 50th Anniversary medals at a ceremony held at the State House today. This event also recognized senior civil servants and awarded permanent Fijian citizenship to seven individuals.
In his address, President Katonivere expressed appreciation for the contributions of the medal recipients and highlighted their commitment to advancing Fiji’s national interests. “I acknowledge all the awardees here today and thank you for your dedication in responding to our humble call to be recognized. To our servicemen in the disciplined forces, thank you for your service to the nation and contribution to global peace,” he stated.
The investiture ceremony featured awards in three categories: the Order of Fiji in both General and Military Divisions, the 50th Anniversary Commemorative Medal, and Civil Service Medals. The President emphasized the importance of awards, stating, “They are an impactful tool that drives us to achieve higher and create positive changes within ourselves and our communities. Your awards should motivate you to positively influence others.”
Additionally, the President awarded Certificates of Citizenship to seven individuals, congratulating them on their official acceptance into Fijian society. “I personally congratulate each of you for gaining your Fiji residency, united under our noble blue banner, a national symbol of solidarity,” he remarked.
He continued, “Citizenship provides a sense of belonging and, most importantly, invokes a sense of inclusion in society.” The 50th Anniversary medals are part of ongoing celebrations commemorating Fiji’s independence, recognizing those who have significantly contributed to the nation’s development over the years.
