Fiji Celebrates Excellence: Medal Ceremony Highlights National Heroes

The President of Fiji, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, presented the Order of Fiji and 50th Anniversary medals during a ceremony held at the State House today.

The event also recognized senior civil servants and seven new recipients of permanent Fijian citizenship. President Katonivere expressed his appreciation for the Medal Recipients, highlighting their dedication to advancing the interests of Fiji.

“I acknowledge all the awardees here today, and I thank you for your commitment to accept this honor from my office. To our servicemen in the disciplined forces, thank you for your service to the nation and your contribution to global peace,” he stated.

The ceremony featured awards in three categories: the Order of Fiji in both General and Military Divisions, the 50th Anniversary Commemorative Medal, and the Civil Service Medals.

“These awards are a powerful tool. They encourage us to strive for higher achievements and initiate positive changes in ourselves and our surroundings. Let your awards motivate you to positively influence others,” Katonivere added.

Additionally, seven individuals were granted Certificates of Citizenship by the President.

“I personally congratulate each and every one of you on attaining your Fiji residency, united under our noble blue banner, a national symbol of solidarity,” he remarked.

“The citizenry fosters a sense of belonging and, more importantly, evokes inclusiveness within society,” he continued.

The 50th Anniversary medals are part of ongoing celebrations to commemorate Fiji’s independence in 1970, honoring those who have made significant contributions to the nation’s development over the years.
