Fiji Celebrates Dedication with 50th Anniversary Medals

The President of Fiji, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, conferred the Order of Fiji and 50th Anniversary medals at a ceremony held at the State House today.

During the investiture, several senior civil servants were recognized, along with seven individuals who received permanent Fijian citizenship.

President Katonivere expressed his appreciation for the medal recipients, praising their unwavering dedication to advancing Fiji’s national interests. He stated, “I acknowledge all the awardees here today, and I thank you for your commitment to our humble call from my office to be awarded today. To our servicemen recipients in the disciplined force, thank you for your service to the nation and for your contribution to global peace.”

The ceremony featured three categories of recognition: the Order of Fiji in General and Military Divisions, the 50th Anniversary Commemorative Medal, and the Civil Service Medals.

Katonivere noted, “Awards are an impactful tool. They drive us to achieve higher and foster changes in ourselves and in the spheres that we operate. Your award must motivate you to positively influence others.”

Additionally, seven individuals received Certificates of Citizenship from the President. He congratulated them for gaining their Fiji residency, describing it as part of a united effort under the national symbol of solidarity.

“The citizen provides a sense of belonging and, most importantly, invokes a sense of inclusion in society,” he remarked.

The 50th Anniversary medals are part of the ongoing celebrations marking Fiji’s independence in 1970, acknowledging those who have made significant contributions to the nation’s development over the years.
